About Me
Lifetime music and audio lover, in recent years major upgrades have been made prior to anticipated retirement. Classical, jazz, blues and rock can be found on turntable or digital front ends at any given moment.
My Audio System
Consisting of custom built, as in my speakers, or much modded equipment. Mods not done by myself are superbly done by David Schulte.

I recently completed a year and a half long project to venture back to Tannoy loudspeakers, in which I bought thirty-five year old HPD 315 drivers on Ebay UK, and had them shipped to my home in Western Washington.
With Wyatt Woodworking's Frank Wyatt's help, enclosures were designed and built of 150 liters, 2" thick MDF (two layers bonded together), at 200 pounds each. They are finished in a high gloss Pommelle Sapele veneer. Frank did a beautiful job on them. Crossovers are a custom design, built by myself from a design provided by a friend's electrical engineer friend. They use Mundorf Silver-in-Oil caps, Dueland reisitors, and Alpha Core 12 gauge inductors.
Wiring is DH Labs solid silver hook up wire.
Frank built matching boxes to house them. Internal wiring is DH Labs Silver Matrix, which is hardwired in to replace poor Tannoy connectors and wiring.
These are the finest sounding speakers that have ever graced my home, and building the crossovers and wiring was an enjoyable thing, as was disassembling the drivers and reconing them with hard edge surrounds converted by Roger at Lockwood Audio in the UK.

Just completed re-prioritizing cabling in system. Moved Synergistic Research Kalidescope to VAC amp, Synergistic Alpha Sterling X2 Active to stereo output from uni-disc player, put Time Portal Audio (David Shulte-designed silver IC) from Musical Fidelity DAC to Sonic Euphoria passive line stage. Everything, all front ends, sound much improved. Good things can happen without spending a cent!

Installed outboard power supply for Sim LP 5.3. Best money ever spent in audio. Enjoyment of vinyl raised to heights never before experienced. Happy I am!

I just completed my Garrard 401 project. It turned out pretty nice. I'd post some photos, but I haven't been able to post a photo in months, maybe someone can help with that problem? Sure would appreciate it!

Thanks, and regards,
Dan

  • Dan Thomason Today, I packed up my Scout Signature for shipment Monday. Drove to nearby Mt. Vernon to pick up the freshly powder-coated top plate. The gloss black looks great with the polished aluminum faceplate, looks nice on the Bubinga plinth. Got to get to work, can't spin vinyl 'til the new/old 401 Garrard is done!

  • Dan Thomason In the midst of restoring a Garrard 401, just purchased on Ebay UK. Bought a nice Dynavector DV 501 arm to use with it, along with my Dyna XX2MKII cart. Had my man Frank at Wyatt Acoustics (he built my speaker enclosures), build an MDF/Bubinga wood plinth. Bead blasting the top plate, and a high-gloss black powder coat is next. I'll post some photos as things progress.
