About Me
Been interested in music and audio all my life, and both give me great pleasure. Enjoying music and audio gear with good friends and comrades is a key motivation for pursuing my interests. I do write a column for Positive Feedback Online entitled "The Neoteric Listener" where I convey my experience with playback equipment from a newcomer's point of view.

Great day listening to a desktop system yesterday. Gave me a chance to try out a ton of cable, DAC, and -speaker combinations. Put that away, go to turn on the amp for a little big system listening, and click-flash- it shuts down and won't turn on. Probably a minor fix, but what a Sunday bummer! My Arcam has been dragged through hell and back and looks every inch of it, but it's great to have it in reserve...

Dean Seislove Well, the Arcam is a little grainier and lacks the iNova's delicacy, but the speakers open up a little better. I wish I had some speaker cables with pin type connectors, I'd use my vintage Luxman with its spring clip terminals. Wouldn't you know it, a new CD player arrived for review, but I guess it's all right because I know the Arcam so well, it's easy to evaluate the player. Wonder if I'll be patient enough for my planned for tube amp, with all of its attendant maintenance!5 days ago

  • Dean Seislove Kudos to Marc Phillips for his really interesting article in Positive Feedback: "Diary of a Mad Exhibitor: CES 2012." I enjoyed the peek into the business side of the show.

Dave Clark No man, don't dump you creativity... do what you do best and express yourself. 100% with Dean on this and would be very disappointed for you to not follow through with your idea. In the end it is your take and his take...14 days ago
  • Dean Seislove Welcome back Audioevites from CES! Been listening to a host of Jonatha Brooke CDs that I picked up this weekend. Michael gave me the tip on the first one, and I've been on a tear ever since. I like the earlier folky ones best, but after listening to Florence and the Machine's newest album and watching Lady Gaga perform on tv last night, I'm warming up to big stage "chick rock" (to quote Joan Jett), too. Lately, it's been all beret boy and weepy girl listening for me, but I'm about ready for some godawful noise. First, though, I'm listening to The Left Bank's greatest hits, which is kind of a revelation for me (Don't Walk Away Rene was too sickly sweet for me), as it's a lot better than anticipated.

David, in these matters, I usually defer to Michael Mercer, as he rarely steers me wrong. I have Pacific Dust, which I like. I usually go to MOG, Amazon, or iTunes to sample the tracks, then make my choice. Here's what Michael posted: "Dude, We are HUGE Mother Hips fans!!!! Dean - I've reviewed their stuff, but not for PFO.
Get Later Days, Back to the Grotto, and Pacific Dust - ALL KILLER ALBUMS!!"

Michael Mercer LOL - you know me too well. Lately I've wholeheartedly been thinking about scaling work back (when Alexandra is working again it will be easier) as I do get freakin' exhausted sometimes30 days ago
